And the Winner Is...

Our survey winner and next official selection is "Undercover User Experience Design" by Cenyyd Bowles and James Box.  You can follow the link to the Amazon page, or buy direct from Peachpit/New Riders.

Thanks everyone who answered the Surveymonkey.  It was a close race between this book and Hoekman's "Designing the Moment".  People also submitted several interesting additional options, some of which will appear on the next survey.

NOTE:  Please stay tuned for a Date and Location for the meetup.  Anyone on the West side care to host this one?

AUGUST SELECTION

Hi UXers,

Here's a Link to our August Selection.

I'll be assisting Nuzi with the organizing duties for the group.  I'm looking forward to hearing from you, so please get in touch with your suggestions, and encourage your friends and co-collaborators to attend.  We're hoping to do something special for our August location, we'll be nailing down a date and providing details shortly.

Much thanks to Sarah for her splendid leadership, and congratulations to her and her family as they look forward to a new arrival :).

UX Book Club LA is staying on Ning, donations welcome.

I don't know if some of you heard about Ning changing from a free to a paid service, but I wanted to let everyone know that I decided to go ahead and pay to keep our group here. Ning isn't perfect, but it's the best home we've had so far. And since we've had so MANY homes over the last year and a half, I thought it was also worth something to not worry about migrating everyone yet again.

So if you feel like helping a club organizer out, a small donation from each of you at our next few meetings would be really appreciated to help defray the $200/year cost. Thanks a million, and happy reading!

Welcome to Los Angeles' UX Book Club

If you’re interested in improving your understanding of our practices, learning about new ideas, and meeting like-minded people, please join us! Whether you’re an information architect, interaction designer, visual designer, usability specialist or still learning about the world of UX design, this club will provide an opportunity for you to engage in conversation and learning with other great people across these disciplines.

All participants are encouraged to feel ownership of the group, and can shape its direction by selecting the books, picking meeting locations, and driving the conversation. We plan to meet every other month, on the odd-numbered months.

UX Book Clubs around the world (http://uxbookclub.org) seek to bring together UX professionals of all stripes interested in deepening their knowledge and enhancing their practice through lively, in-depth discussion about books that have made or have promise for making a great impact on the UX community.
